NUTRITIONAL RECOMENTATIONS AFTER SURGERY

At Wisdom Teeth & Beyond Oral Surgery, we want your recovery to be as smooth and comfortable as possible. Here are some helpful nutrition tips to guide you through recovery.

1.Stick to Soft Foods

  • For the first few days, eat foods that are easy to chew and swallow.
  • Smoothies or protein shakes (avoid using a straw)
  • Mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Yogurt or pudding
  • Oatmeal
  • Soups (warm not hot)

2.Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support healing.
Avoid:

  • Hot beverages for the first 24 hours
  • Carbonated drinks (pop drink)
  • Alcohol and caffeinated drinks (these can slow healing)

3.Avoid Certain Foods

For at least a week after surgery, avoid foods that can irritate or disturb the surgical site:

  • Crunchy or hard food (chips, nuts, popcorn)
  • Sticky or chewy foods (caramel, candy, gum)
  • Spicy or acidic foods that can cause discomfort

4.Gradually Reintroduce Regular Foods

As your mouth heals and tenderness decreases, you can slowly return to a normal diet.

  • Take small bites and chew slowly
  • Chew on the opposite side of your mouth from the surgical site.

Focus on Balanced Nutrition

Healing requires nutrients- aim for a balanced intake that includes:

  • Protein- for tissue repair (eggs, yogurt, fish, tofu)
  • Vitamins A & C – for faster healing (blended fruits and cooked vegetables)
  • Calcium- for bone health (dairy or fortified alternatives)
  • Tip: If chewing feels uncomfortable, try eating smaller, more frequent meals instead of three large ones. Be patient with yourself- everyone heals at a different pace.
