DAY OF YOUR ORAL SURGERY: WHAT TO EXPECT & HOW TO PREPARE

At Wisdom Teeth & Beyond Oral Surgery, we want you to feel informed and confident on the day of your procedure. Following these simple guidelines will help your surgery go smoothly and support a safe, comfortable recovery.

Before Your Appointment

To ensure everything goes as planned:

    • Confirm your appointment time and arrive 15 minutes early to complete any remaining forms.
    • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for a minimum of 8 hours before surgery if you are receiving IV sedation.
    • Take prescribed medications only if your surgeon has approved them for the morning of the surgery. Take with a small sip of water if needed.
    • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short sleeves to allow access for monitoring and IV placement. Dark colored clothing is preferred.
  • Remove all jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, and fake nails before your appointment.
  • A responsible adult ( > 21 years old) must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, drive the patient home, and stay with you for several hours afterward.
  • Avoid heavy makeup or lip products, as they can affect monitoring equipment.
  • Avoid smoking or vaping for at least 24 hours before surgery. These can interfere with healing.
  • The use of alcohol or recreational drugs can have an adverse effect on the anesthesia medication that we use. Please discontinue the use of such for at least 72 hours before surgery.
